How it works

I am in the process of making dollies to take to the children I will be meeting on the World Vision Tanzania Volunteer Trip in September 2016. I’m asking friends to ‘sponsor’ a dolly for $20.00.
The doll’s are hand made by me, some will have embroidered faces and, as we will be visiting some Muslim communities I have also been making what I hope are appropriate dolls for the Muslim children.
They not only have a heart to show we care, but proudly display a Canadian flag on the back.
How it works -
If you would like to participate by ‘sponsoring’ a dolly, or even just making a donation, you can e-transfer the money to me through your bank or donate through the PayPal button located on my blog at :http://mymissionsa.blogspot.ca/
If you wish you can let me know which type of doll you’d like and if you prefer a boy or a girl. If you would like, I can attach a small gift card where I will be able to write a short message from you to the child.
I can also email you a picture or pictures of your dolls if you wish.
Thank-you in advance or your support.

More thoughts of Haiti

Probably many of you are feeling the same as I am and wondering why it is taking so long to get medical supplies into Haiti! Did anyone see the CNN report ( or was it the CBC ) about the medical clinic that has been set up at the airport and even there, they are not getting medical supplies! How can that be happening when they are so close. They have had to shut down for the night as well because there is no power, and yet I heard the power was back on in most areas. It must be so frustrating for all involved and so devastating for the Haitian people! I wish we could get most of those babies out of there, into temporary foster homes in Canada/US, or wherever, until it can be decided whether they still have families or are eligible for adoption. Personally I'd take children, families or whoever, until things settle down and the rebuilding starts. I believe most of the people will want to return to their homeland, but so many need help now and could return at a more suitable time. The exodus seen today after the 5.9 quake this morning is understandable and so is the slight bit of looting I have heard about; I'm pretty sure most of us would be looking for food, water and supplies in that situation. The bright spot is they are still finding survivors this long after the quake.

World Vision is working hard on the ground already with their 800 staff that is there. Dave Toycen was there within about 24 hours. They sent out an email dated Jan. 18th telling what they are doing already.

Over the past several days, World Vision has been airlifting in relief supplies from around the world including Canada and have been distributing them immediately to children and families around Port-au-Prince. These shipments have included the following supplies:
tarpaulins for temporary shelter
blankets
collapsible water containers
hygiene kits, which include a month’s supply of toilet paper, sanitary pads, toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs, body soap and laundry soap for a family of five.
cooking sets, which include aluminum pots and pans, bowls, utensils

World Vision has also been providing medical supplies and other lifesaving supplies to the 11 hospitals and health centres in Port-au-Prince and have been assisting with triage.
We continue to coordinate with government and aid agencies today to provide basic relief supplies. World Vision’s focus will be on fulfilling basic needs for children, who are the most vulnerable in disasters such as this.
We are particularly concerned for children who have been separated from parents and loved ones by this earthquake in conditions without, health care, water or food.
We’ve been distributing medical and survival supplies since yesterday. Like every responding organization, we are struggling with the congestion on the roads and at the airport in Haiti as we arrange large deliveries, but we are confident our supplies will get through soon.

Wondering how you can help?
